Practice 2 Cognizing Igneous Rocks, 2 experiment hours
Practice 3 Cognizing Sedimentary Rocks, 2 experiment hours
Practice 4 Cognizing Metamorphic Rocks, 2 experiment hours
Practice 5 Cognizing Geologic Structure, 2 experiment hours
2. Field Practice
As not to influence the normal semester experimental teaching, geological cognition field practice is usually arranged during the first semester of the summer vacation, hours: 3 weeks, credits: 3.
3. Related experimental teaching materials:
According to the characteristics of this course, to facilitate the students experiment and field practice, the foreign language version of the related experiments and practical teaching materials are prepared professionally.
(1) An Introduction to Earth Sciences Experimental Guide (English Edition), School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, Xi'an Shiyou University, 2016.
(2) Geological Cognition Field Practice Guide (English Edition), School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, Xi'an Shiyou University, 2016.
(3) The use of multimedia devices, rock and mineral specimens and related materials on course websites. Students can take full advantage of websites.
4. Practical Teaching Environment:
School of Earth Sciences and Engineering provides special Earth Science Laboratories for foreign students. All these laboratories are equipped with projectors, microscopes, supporting tables and chairs, as well as all kinds of specimen, which may fully meet the needs of the students for practice.
The school has a common practice base for Earth Science with Chengdu University of Technology (formerly Chengdu Geological Institute) in Micangshan of Sichuan province. Every year, the first-year undergraduates are sent to the field for practice training. Meanwhile the base is open to foreign students, which could provide opportunities for foreign students to take field training practice of the course: An Introduction to Earth Sciences.
